ST. PAUL, Minn. – A Minnesota judge has sentenced the girlfriend of Philando Castile to a year of probation for assault of a woman last year.
Members of the jury acquitted 28-year-old Diamond Reynolds of the crime of maltreatment, but found her guilty of a lesser assault charge in March. The Star Tribune reports a Ramsey County judge also ordered Reynolds to perform community service and complete anger management counseling.
Judge Elena Ostby told Reynolds they have not taken responsibility for her actions. Reynolds refused to make a statement at sentencing.
Reynolds gained international attention after live streaming the bloody aftermath of the July 2016 shooting of Castile, by the then St. Anthony police officer Jeronimo Yanez. Authorities alleged Reynolds was involved in another attack in St. Paul weeks before she was to testify in Yanez, the trial.
A jury acquitted Yanez last year.
