Case against columnist Ebru Umar in Turkey once again postponed

A court case in Turkey against the Dutch columnist Ebru Umar for a second time postponed. Umar is prosecuted for insulting the prophet Mohammed on Twitter.

The lawsuit is postponed to the end of march, reports The Telegraaf on Wednesday. “I’m at the mercy of the arbitrariness of the Turks”, says Umar against the newspaper. “It is annoying that it takes and takes, but this hinders me in my daily life.”

It runs in the case to a tweet that the Dutch in 2011, sent with the text ‘Muhammad is a homo, success is guaranteed’. Umar denies that the prophet.

The columnist is not present at the hearings in the lawsuit. “It was in Turkey, I am in the Netherlands. If I had been there, I would probably behave differently and take care of me.”

In Turkey are also two other lawsuits against Umar, for insulting the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
