Carnival cruise ship rescues man who jumped overboard

Passengers reportedly watched as a man desperately trying to swim back to their cruise ship after going overboard on the goal.

The incident took place on Saturday morning in the near of San Juan, Puerto Rico. The man was traveling on the Carnival Fascination ship, and was successfully rescued from the water. According to a statement from a spokesman for Carnival, the man jumped overboard, although it’s unclear what prompted this action.

A spokesman for Carnival Cruise Lines told Fox News, “from about 8 pm Saturday, May 18, Carnival Fascination crew rescued a guy who had jumped overboard from Deck 10. The crew and guests witnessed this event and quickly alerted the bridge. The captain of the ship immediately back to the location and a lifeboat was deployed with key personnel. The guest was quickly back in the board. He is in good condition and is assessed by the ship’s medical team.”

Someone who claims to be a passenger on the ship, posted a photo of the rescue on Twitter with the words “today is the day at sea – Man overboard – something you never want to hear on a cruise. A rescue followed, thankfully. I took this picture from my balcony.”

This news comes on the heels of another save by a Carnival Cruise Lines ship. On Monday, the cruise line announced that one of their ships, the Carnival Paradise, saved a man after he sent a distress signal because the boat was taking on water.

The sailor was picked up 13 miles north of Cozumel, Mexico, where the Carnival Paradise had just left. “Carnival Paradise conversely of course, and ordered a rescue boat, brought the skipper on board and food, water and medical treatment,” a spokesman for Carnival said on Fox News in a statement.
