The law gives officials 24 hours to determine whether more suspects should be released before the court. This time can be extended by 12 hours if necessary.

“Today, California reform its bail system so that the rich and the poor alike are treated fairly,” Brown said in a statement, according to The Sacramento Bee.

Brown’s signature, the state judicial Council, the decision-making body for the California courts broad powers to reshape detention policy.

Each district will use the framework decision of the Council as a basis for your own procedures for deciding who the release before the court, potentially a patchwork system to create, based, lives where there is a suspect.
