A California man was arrested Friday for the alleged murder of a homeless woman who was looking for a place to sleep, police say.

Carlos Urias, 49, was charged with murder in the death of 41-year-old Joanna Otero, Fresno’s Fox 26 reported.

He was booked into the Madera County Department of Corrections on Friday night, according to the report.

The police in Madera responded to a call at about 11:50 a.m. Monday, about an injured person in the area of 4th and G Streets. She told me that she didn Otero injury, which is a type of attack.

As the police combed through surveillance footage from businesses in the area of the attack and the identity of the Urias as a suspect. He was seen Friday while hiking in an area of the Park to B Street, and was arrested for the murder of Fox 26 reported.

“The arrest of Carlos is not a replacement for the loss of Joanne Otero, but it is hoped that he will begin the process of healing for the family and the community,” said a spokesman for the Madera Police Department said in a statement.

Madera is in the center of California, approximately 165 miles south-southeast of San Francisco, california.
