A police officer was killed, and the officer on a ride-along was injured after an “active shooter” incident in Northern California, early Wednesday, officials said.
The two men were taken into custody in connection with the incident, but the scene was still “active” at a later time on Wednesday morning, with a helicopter, and a large part of the rule of law in the region, the officials said.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office identified the deceased as a Sheriff’s Deputy, Brian Ismail, said on Facebook the incident occurred in the area of Ridge Road and Mt Aukum Road, in the unincorporated community of Somerset, located about 60 miles east of Sacramento.
“It is with a very heavy heart that we announce that we lost a deputy in the line of duty this morning,” the department said.

The deputy was responding to an unspecified call for service when he and another person were shot at by an unknown number of people, according to police.

“Their condition is unknown at this time,” he said to the police by the victim. The officials did not identify the other person, but rather a ride-along is usually a person who is not law enforcement.

A police officer should be able to be seen in the video on FOX40 with his gun drawn, down a road that leads into the area where the shooting took place. The incident is still being investigated by the police.
The incident drew a large law enforcement response.
“We are asking that you please stay out of this area,” authorities said. “The residents, we ask that you remain vigilant and call 911 for any suspicious activity.”

Ishmael is described as a four-year veteran with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s office, who had previously worked for the Placerville Police Department.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends,” said the police.

Work in the enforcement of the law, it is one of the most dangerous jobs in America. At the end of October, 81 officers were killed in the line of duty this year, with the causes, which range from vehicle accidents, and medical emergencies to the murders, according to data from the Officer Down Memorial Page.
