FRESNO, California. – A jury has convicted a California man of attempted murder in the shooting of two unarmed officers in the lobby of a prison.
The Fresno Bee reports that Fresno County jury returned the verdict against the 38-year-old Thong Vang on Thursday, rejecting his claim of self-defense.
Authorities say Vang shot the officers Juanita Davila and Toamalama Scanlan in 2016, when they approached him after he cut to the front of the visitors’ line in the centre of Fresno de prison.
Scanlan’s wife, Tespatasi, testified that her husband can no longer walk, talk or feed himself. Davila was shot in the neck and said she needs another surgery to repair her broken jaw.
Catch for rape convictions. Prosecutors say he now faces a sentence of more than 100 years in prison.
