Under the bill, the hairstyles would be used for the subsequent definition “a race for the California’s Fair Employment and housing act, which currently prohibits the discrimination or the employment of housing practices on the basis of the stated personal characteristics.

“In spite of the great strides in American society, and the laws made in order to turn the racist idea that Black features are inferior, and the hair continues to be an unlimited source of racial discrimination with the economic crisis and its impact on health, particularly for Black people,” the bill reads.

The proposal comes after Chastity Jones, of Alabama, claimed she lost a job offer after refusing to cut off her dreadlocks in January, 2013. They have asked the Supreme court to review her case, by 2018, claiming that it was in violation of the provisions of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The bill passed the state Senate in April and has been approved by the state Assembly and the 27th of the month of June. It is waiting for a signature from the Gov. Gavin Newsom.
