California authorities respond to the ‘active barricaded suspect’ at Trader Joe’s, police say

Los Angeles police said that there was “an active barricaded suspect” on a Trader Joe’s store in Silver Lake.

After previously tweeting about “an active police incident,” the POLICE tweeted that an individual had “barricaded themselves” at the chain grocery story.

UPDATE: We can confirm that there is an active barricaded suspect inside a #TraderJoes in #Silverlake. An active tac-alert has been declared in order to ensure that all necessary resources will be available. Please continue to stay clear of the area.

After a “pursuit of a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting incident” earlier in the day, the police tweeted that “an officer involved shooting occurred,” and a suspect has been holed up in the supermarket.

The update came in response to a tweet from the President, the Trump, who said that he is guarding a “possible hostage situation” in Los Angeles. KCAL9 reported witnesses say the hostages could be in the Trader Joes, but that is not confirmed by the authorities.

The police said SWAT resources were on the spot and warned the public to avoid the area around the store, located at the intersection of Hyperion avenue and Griffith Park Boulevard in Silver Lake.

There is an active police incident at the Trader Joe’s in the vicinity of the intersection of Hyperion avenue and Griffith Park Blvd. in #Silverlake. Please stay clear of the area. A Public Information Officer, respond to, and more information will be released as they become available.

LAPD Public Information Officer Mike Lopez told Fox News that an elderly woman, and a woman in her 20s were shot. KCAL9, with reference to the LAPD, reported that the suspect was dismissed with their grandmother, even though Lopez told Fox News that he could not say whether the older woman shot was the suspect’s grandmother.

An employee of The Associated Press who lives in the area reported seeing a crashed car against a utility pole outside the shop.

Los Angeles-Mayor Eric Garcetti tweeted about the incident, that people “to steer clear” of the store.
