A beveiligingsonderzoeker has a method been found to any computer with Windows 7 or 8 to crash. Having only a certain link to be visited in a browser or in the file browser.
That reports Ars Technica on Friday. The Windows versions contain a vulnerability that causes problems if a local file location with the folder name ‘$MFT’ is visited.
NU.nl has the problem been able to verify this on a computer with Windows 7. After the problematic URL is visited, no new programs be started and respond already running programs not more.
According to Ars Technica, is that the case, because the file system by the bug will be locked. All programs wait until this lock is released, but that does not happen. The only way to get the computer to work again to get him manually to restart.
The bug has similarities with a problem that in the previous century was found in Windows 95 and 98. Windows 10 does not seem to be affected by the new bug. Microsoft has not yet commented on the find.
