WINSTON-SALEM, N. C. – Authorities say a young boy is fighting for his life, a day after the ambulance carrying him overturned when it was hit by a drunk driver in North Carolina.
Winston-Salem Police Lt. Rick Newnum said the boy remains in critical condition Monday. Newnum described him as a toddler or pre-schooler.
The boy was on his way to a Winston-Salem hospital early Sunday at the crash. It is not clear what happened with the boy, but Newnum said he was in stable condition before the crash. He came with life-threatening injuries after the ambulance rolled on its side.
The police says the mother was on board and had minor injuries.
The driver of the car hit the ambulance faces charges including driving under the influence.
