A seven-year-old Texas boy was shot and killed Thursday after he was caught in a crossfire between the police officers and a woman suspect that she is pursuing.
The unknown woman, who was also killed, was reported to have stolen a car in the city of Scherz. Bexar County sheriff’s deputies followed the woman to a mobile home park, where she was trying to break into one of the houses.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar told reporters that four deputies opened fire on the suspect. The boy was in the mobile home, the woman was trying to break in when he was hit in the abdomen and was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Two other people in the mobile home were not hit by bullets, but were also included in the hospital.
Salazar said that it was not clear who fired the shot that killed the boy.
“We don’t want to leave no stone unturned,” he said. “We want everyone to have answers here. Now, it is just too early to say.”
Salazar added the deputies involved in the shooting of between two and 27 years of experience in the department and said that they were “pretty shaken up.”
