Boekenbal moves from Theatre to Paradiso
The Boekenbal, the opening of the annual national book week, this year on Friday 24 march at the Paradiso in Amsterdam, and not, as usually in the capital city Theatre.
Paradiso is renamed the “garden of Eden,” for the book week of 2017 is in the sign of temptation and forbidden fruit .
One of the reasons to not Staddschouwburg to use the theme itself, says director Eppo van Nispen of the Foundation for the Collective Propaganda of the Dutch Book (CPNB): “We wanted to own a forbidden fruit reaping, and by the Boekenbal in Paradiso, a former church and former krakersbolwerk of hippies, we’ll do that. The temptation of all the naughty that took place, we could not resist!”
Last year, all the message the heading on that the other location would be chosen, not only to the theme, but also because the date of the Boekenbal was changed to a day when the theater is already full. For a datumwijziging would be chosen to be not too close to the elections for the Second Chamber.
The book week lasts until 2 april. The Boekenweekgeschenk is written by Herman Koch.
