MEMPHIS, Tennessee. – Police in Tennessee say a dead man’s body remained undetected in a seized seven weeks.
Memphis Police Department Director Michael Rallings called Monday to the late discovery of “unacceptable” and said that an internal investigation has been opened.
Rallings said the robbers opened fire on the bus after the two men resisted against the theft Dec. 18. The 47-year-old driver was shot multiple times, but the 55-year-old passenger was unharmed. Both men had told the police that they were the only ones in the car at the time.
News outlets report that the car was seized as evidence. The still unknown man’s body was found with a gunshot wound to the back seat as the driver came to pick up his vehicle on Monday.
Rallings says that an autopsy will determine whether the man would have survived had he been found earlier.
