People magazine named Blake Shelton are the Sexiest Man Alive for 2017 on Tuesday, but it took some convincing by his friend Gwen Stefani to her husband on board.
The country music superstar and coach on NBC’s “The Voice” hate to be the center of attention, the magazine said.
“She goes, ‘Listen to me,” recalled the 6-foot-5, Oklahoma-bred Shelton. “‘You’re going to regret this for the rest of your life if you don’t take this gift and just live in the moment.’ I have ugly my whole life. If I can be sexy for a year, I’ll take it!'”
Bonus for the pronounced Shelton: He can have the crown above the head of Adam Levine, his fellow coach on the singing competition, and a former Sexiest Man Alive himself. Only Shelton used some colorful language to describe that experience between his friend and banter partner on air.
Shelton said that he was, in fact, proud and honoured to have been picked, adding: “I’m not going to treat this like Hugh Jackman or one of those guys who’s humble about it. People are going to hate me more than this. Because it’s going to be used in each call, or the now when ‘The Voice’ or to the feed store in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, or in a conversation with a doctor. To I on the basis of the title, which is what it is for me, more than to anyone else, this is mine. This is a certification.”
The magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive special double issue hits newsstands Friday.
Shelton was not the only sexiest man anointed. The magazine with the name of the Pearson men of NBC’s “This is Us” as the sexiest cast: Sterling K. Brown, who plays the role of Randall; Milo Ventimiglia, who plays Jack; and Justin Hartley, who plays the role of Kevin. Their reveal went to NBC’s “Today” show.
“I think sexy is just comfortable in your own skin, and these two cats are very comfortable in their skin, Brown said at a photo shoot of his co-stars
Ventimiglia said that he believes that humour, confidence and kindness are key. Oh, and “stubble.”
Hartley agrees: “Stubble, and forgiveness, that is my mantra.
