Blackmail with nude photos over the internet has greatly increased
There is a large increase in extortion using nude photos via the internet noted. This is also known as sextortion’: a combination of ‘sex’ and ‘I believe’.
In 2016 were 851 reports of online extortion using nude photos and videos, where that number in 2015 is still on 721 notifications lag. Thus there is an increase of nearly 20 percent.
Notify the NOS and the integrity of online abuse, Help Wanted. Half of these reports were from children and young people 8 to 25 years.
The reason that many young people of that age have to deal with this kind of problem, can according to Maaike Pekelharing of the misbruikmeldpunt have to do with the fact that adolescents often take more risk, and therefore sometimes make mistakes. The other half of the notifications is coming from adults, even though the hotline was established for children and young people. It concerns, in particular, men who on Facebook be approached by attractive women and end up in a situation which she is blackmailed with nudes.
When adults seek contact with Help Wanted, they will be referred to the police. If adults are victims of this kind of practices, than they do to the contact with the blackmailer to disconnect it and directly report, advises the hotline.
