Former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino explains what can be learned from the ground-breaking discovery.
From the very first image is that of a black hole to the strange happenings on Mars and the Apollo 11 anniversary, and the last three attempts to land on the moon by 2019, is a very busy year in the area.
FIRST, THE BLACK HOLE IMAGE IS REVEALED

In April, researchers released the first-ever image of a black hole, and find a distant object down to the smallest detail.
The ground-breaking discovery was done by using the Event Horizon Telescope, a global project, in which telescopes in the world, which describes itself as “a virtual Earth-sized telescope.” Telescopes in Hawaii, Arizona, Chile, Mexico, Spain and the south pole and took part in the ambitious project.
APOLLO 11’S MICHAEL COLLINS, TO REFLECT ON THE HISTORIC MOON LANDING: ‘WE WERE JUST REGULAR ASTRONAUTS
The black hole has been spotted in the galaxy Messier 87 (M87), is 55 million light-years away from Earth. The use of a light-year, which measures the distance in space is equal to 6 trillion miles.
“We are very pleased to be able to log in … that’s what we saw, what we thought was the unseeable,” said Shep doeleman at Ph. D., director of the Event Horizon Telescope, in April, during a press conference at the National Science Foundation. “We’ll have a live chance.”

On July 20, 1969, millions of people around the world watched on TELEVISION as Apollo 11 astronaut Neil Armstrong took his historic step into the pages of history. Half a century later, the world celebrated the daring of a mission.
Events were held all over the world to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the landing on the moon. Speaking at nasa’s Kennedy Space Center, Vice-President Mike Pence has announced that the Orion capsule carrying American astronauts back to the moon, is now complete.

The second-ever inter-stellar ” object, Comet lovejoy, 2I/Borisov, was discovered by astronomer Gennady Borisov, on Aug. 30.
In September, the International Astronomical Union, said of the comet may have originated in a different system. Apart from which, the month by NASA’s JPL, said 2I/Borisov was about 260 million kilometres from the sun. It reaches it’s closest point, or perihelion, on Jan. 8, 2019 at the latest, when it was about 190 million miles from the sun.
In a study published in October suggests that the Comet-2I/Borisov was the water from the outside of the solar system. If the findings are correct, it would mark the first time that water from the outside of the solar system have been discovered.
2I/Borisov, the second inter-stellar object to be discovered, after the mysterious cigar-shaped Oumuamua, which was discovered in October of 2017. In contrast to its predecessor, the North, 2I/Borisov will be visible for a longer period of time.
The discovery of 2I/Borisov, and the fact that the series has added to the mystery of the Oumuamua. Some have theorized it may have been from a light-sail, being sent from an intelligent alien civilization, a comet, or an asteroid.
STRANGE HAPPENINGS ON MARS
The annotated region in the image, you can see where the water ice is located near the surface of Mars.
While NASA wants to send astronauts to Mars in the 2030s, the space agency has the creation of some of the amazing be found on the Red Planet, including some you can’t quite explain.
Four months after the stunning announcement that NASA’s Curiosity rover discovered an “unusually high” levels of methane on Mars, the government, the space agency said in November that it is the oxygen, which is “to act in a way that many people are not able to explain it.”
The Curiosity rover, which is exploring the Gale Crater since it landed on Mars in August 2012, has been analyzing the air by means of the Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM) instrument. It was found that the oxygen in the atmosphere does not behave in the same way, that is, nitrogen, and argon did, and it increased by as much as 30 per cent in the spring, summer, and fall, in the fall.
NASA is also of the opinion that it is the oxygen, a mystery, is related to the methane mystery. In a statement released in June, the space agency has confirmed that the rover is measured as the largest amount of methane, 21 parts per billion by volume, and since landing on the Red Planet on Aug. 6, 2012.
NASA DENIES ALIEN LIFE WAS DISCOVERED ON MARS IN THE 1970’S
On Earth, methane is produced both from biological and geological sources, but NASA had warned in June that it was not clear where the methane was coming from, and how old he was.
In April, NASA’s Insight lander is included in the first-ever “Marsquake.”
In December, NASA also turned out to be a fascinating “map” of where the water ice can be found just under the surface of Mars.

2019 started off with historic moon landing. When the Chang’e 4 probe reached the moon’s surface on Dec. 2, China was the first country to land on the far side of the moon.
The moon’s far side, it is also known as the ” dark side, because it faces away from the Earth, and will continue to remain relatively unknown, having a different composition from the sites that are in the vicinity of the side at which the previous missions have landed with.
THE APOLLO ASTRONAUTS REVEAL WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WALK ON THE MOON, ‘THE MOST BEAUTIFUL TERRAIN I HAVE EVER SEEN
The probe captured a beautiful panoramic image of the far side of the moon.
The mission demonstrates China’s growing ambitions as a space power to be a rival to Russia, the European Union and the united states.
In 2013, China became the third country after the united states and the former Soviet Union, in order to successfully “soft land” on the moon when the Chang’e 3 lander reached the surface of the moon.

It is uncrewed Beresheet spacecraft failed in its historic attempt at a lunar landing earlier this year.
Beresheet crashed into the moon’s surface, on the 11th of April. The truck experienced an engine problem in seconds, and it is expected to reach the moon. It was only a few hundred meters above the surface of the moon, when the Mission Control in Yehud, Israel, has lost contact with the probe.
“IT WAS VERY, VERY CLOSE TO A BREAK DOWN’: THE NERVE-WRACKING LAST FEW SECONDS OF THE APOLLO 11 MOON LANDING UNFOLDED
Beresheet, which is the Hebrew for “in beginning,” was developed by the Israeli non-profit SpaceIL, and the state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries. SpaceIL and the IAI said that it is a manual command to determine the cause of the crash. Without it, the engine is working properly, controllers were able to slow down Beresheet down as they approach the surface of the moon.
The date would have been the first private mission to the Moon
Just a few days after the crash, the SpaceIL Chairman of the Morris Kahn, was announced Beresheet 2, in a second attempt to land on the moon.
“This is my message to the younger generation, Even if you don’t succeed, get back up and try it out,” he said in a statement.

The Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft will carry the Vikram Lander, was launched from Sriharikota in the southern part of India, on the 22nd of July.
India’s first moon mission, Chandrayaan-1, will orbit the moon in 2008, but it is not in the country. It does, however, have the start of a major impact on the probe that was intentionally crashed into the moon.

In a document posted on the fbo web site, NASA stated that the astronauts will be flown in the Orion spacecraft to the ‘Gateway’ of the international space station, in orbit around the moon. The Gateway is the ship that will be used to support the transfer of crew and supplies to the lunar lander.
After the Apollo 11 astronauts, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the moon on 20 July 1969, in just 10 more men, all Americans, walked on the surface of the moon. The Apollo 17 Mission, Cmdr. Cernan became the last NASA astronaut to set foot on the moon on Dec. 14, 1972.
In October, NASA presented its plans to send a new lunar rover, VIPER, on the surface of the moon.

NASA astronauts, Christina Koch, and Jessica Meir made history with the first female space walk in October. The space was a Bar first, and the Koch’s in fourth place.
NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine saw it, the momentous event unfold from the agency’s headquarters in Washington.
“We have the right people in the right job at the right time,” he said. “They are a great source of inspiration for people all over the world, including me. We are very excited to get this mission underway.”
