Bibian Mentel is working to recover from two surgeries and start feeling in her legs. “At this time, there are about 5 a 10% of recovery”, says husband Edwin Spee on Facebook.
“After 2 weeks hospital, 2 heavy operations, 288 fearful hours, there is hope and we will drive towards the rehab center where Bibian in the coming weeks will hard to go to work on her recovery.”
The former paralympic snowboarder was two weeks ago, had surgery for a tumor on her ruggenwervel and it appeared after the surgery her legs are not good to be able to move.
“After the news that she sat night march 7, woke up without feeling in her legs, we are glad to be able to tell that after the surgery of last Friday, the feeling in both legs is slowly coming back!”
Spee says that it is not currently possible to predict how the recovery will continue to be will be, “but Bibian knowing she will this time as everyone amaze”.
Disease several times returned
Mentels lower leg was in 2001 amputated because of bone cancer. Since then, the disease multiple times in her back.
In October 2018 put them a point behind her long career as a paralympic snowboardster. They conquered three times gold at the Paralympics.
In 2014, she was in Sochi olympic champion in the snowboard cross after years and years had lobbied to snowboarding on the program of the Paralympics.
