Best spring break party destinations

Whether it’s a club that hugs a Caribbean beach or a bar that pulsates with the rock music in Sin City, one thing is for sure: the party for The spring break. With quick flights to this sun-drenched North American and Caribbean destinations, and with the knowledge that fruity drinks, craft beers and, yes, even bottles of wine are flowing, what are you waiting for?

Here are a number of spring break destinations where you will find the best parties.

    Panama City Beach, Florida

    There is a reason for “Girls Gone Wild” filmed many of the episodes in this Panhandle city: This is the central ground for students who are taking the edge of their interim studies. Apartments and hotels, on 27 miles of white sand beach, including the Number 1 ranked beach by Dr. Beach, alias Dr. Stephen leatherman, who has become America’s leading beach expert. Spring break begins on Saturday night in the Holiday Inn Resort in Panama City Beach with a luau party (grass skirts and coconut bras encouraged).

    Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

    Three celebrity rock stars working the bars in downtown Cabo: Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS performing Rock & Brews, and Sammy Hagar of Van Halen runs Cabo Wabo Cantina. Book a room at the marina or the centre — not in one of the tony resorts, on the highway — and all you have to do is stumble home. Nursing a hangover at Bahia Hotel & Beach Club’s Bar Esquina (popular with expats) with huevos rancheros or chilaquilles, and a “wake-up” cocktail such as a Mimosa or Bloody Caesar.

    It is not difficult to be the only island in the Caribbean with fruity drinks, but Punta Cana takes it to another level with Vegas-style shows in the-year-old Coco Bongo. While enjoying a rum cocktail while watching “Moulin Rouge” or an acrobatic show. Ditch the clubs and bars of the hotels and resorts, and hop to Drink Point, the “club” along Bavaro Beach. It is a big hit with expats and it is open until 5 in the morning, Save more money for the clubs by booking an all-inclusive at Barcelo Bavaro Palace Deluxe, just down the road from Drink Point.

    Flights from McCarran International Airport are cheap, and the rates are just as low — even at the new Linq Hotel (from € 55 per night). The 78,000-square-foot, 32-lane Brooklyn Bowl merges cocktails with bowling and there is a live music venue. Drai, inside The Cromwell Boutique Hotel & Casino is a beach club and a night club with acts such as the electro-funk duo Chromeo and Dj’s with international cred. In an only-in-Vegas twist, a visit to a dayclub, such as the marquee at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas (open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 am to sunset).

    Miami Beach

    For the partygoers that are looking for nostalgia, it doesn’t get any better than that you can relax with a drink in an art deco hotel located on Ocean Drive in South Beach. Hotels in SoBe can be expensive, but if your agenda is to party, book a room in the Miami Hostel (including transportation to and from a different local club each evening) or the new YVE Hotel in the centre of Miami (as low as $169 per night in March).

Adults crave a Cancun vacation, too, especially in one of the dozens of all-inclusive beach hotels where you are not nickel-and-dimed for food and drink. Feast on the music of Dj’s, if you work on your tan at the Oasis Cancun, an all-inclusive (yes, including drinks) which is the official website of the many spring break beach contests. Or book a room at Krystal Cancun, suitable for many clubs in Punta Cancun. The JW Marriott offers a swimming pool luxury when you have a well-deserved period of recovery of your nightlife fiesta.

    Everything is better in Texas, as the saying goes, and that includes South Padre Island’s spring break scene.     Does recreational boating seem to be more up your alley? This city is a magnet for spring breakers and offers motel rates from under $100 per night, including the Havasu Sands Resort (with swimming pool) and Bridgewater Motel (wake up with views over the lake and the London Bridge). It is not uncommon to see boats moored in Bridgewater Canal, and the Copper Canyon, combined with rock music and lots of beer. After sunset, revelers head to the bull riding and go-go girls in Kokomo.

    The party doesn’t stop when Mardi Gras ends. Plenty of bars and clubs keep the light on for the party-goers in Crescent City. Among them is Vaughan’s, a cozy lounge on Dauphine Street in the Bywater, with a Thursday night party with live jazz music and only a $10-$15 cover (including classic NoLa fare: red beans and rice). Retire to a historic boutique hotel such as Ambassador Hotel, snug in the Arts District near the French Quarter and under $179 on certain dates in March and April.
