Benedict Cumberbatch plays the leading role in Gypsy Boy
Benedict Cumberbatch plays the lead role in the film Gypsy Boy, whose script is based on the eponymous memoir of the British author Mikey Walsh.
Cumberbatch plays the role of Frank, the father of Walsh. The writer grows up in a Roma gypsy family, where everything to boxing and running. Walsh forced his family and the gypsy community to leave, after 1996, when he comes out as a homosexual.
About his turbulent youth and coming-out, he wrote the two books Gypsy Boy (2010) and Gypsy Boy on the Run (2011).
“I felt instantly drawn to the heroic and heartbreaking story of Mikey,” says Cumberbatch in a reaction at the Variety. “His father Frank is not like the other characters that I have played. He is a complex man who is torn feeling between traditions and the love for his son,” says the actor.
The shooting for the film in the summer of 2018. The producers are still looking for an actor who played the role of Mikey will take.
Cumberbatch was most recently seen in Doctor Strange and is also known for his roles in The Imitation Game and The Fifth Estate. Soon we will film The Current War, in which he inventor, Thomas Edison play.
