‘Beautiful’ font, found at Bethlehem’s Church of the Nativity, Palestinian officials say

An ancient 1500-year-old baptismal font was discovered during the renovation works in the Church of the Nativity of jesus in Bethlehem.

In Bethlehem, Jesus’s birthplace according to Christian tradition. The size is estimated to date back to between 501 and 600 A. D.

Ziad al-Bandak, the head of the Palestinian president’s commission for the church to be leading the renovation, said Saturday that the world-leading experts in the biblical West Bank town, to examine into the container.

Al-Bandak is described in the Byzantine font of it as a “stunning” discovery that will be covered by the larger well-known ship.

A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Church of the Nativity is located approximately 6.2 km to the south of the City. The church was built on the site identified as Jesus’s birthplace in the Christian tradition.

A restoration project was launched five years ago, it has to overcome decades of neglect in the historic church.

The palestinian news agency WAFA reported that a ceremony to mark the end of the project, which is scheduled for November, has been pushed back to May, by the year 2020. The delay will allow the three churches to the leadership of the Church of the Nativity, to the presentation of the restoration of the church, in a cave, WAFA reports.

In a separate project on the site of an ancient city on the Western Bank of the river jordan, archaeologists have been on the hunt for evidence of the tabernacle, which once housed the Ark of the Covenant.
