Beatles-collaborator “Magic Alex” died in Athens

The Greek Alexis Mardas was Friday found dead in his apartment in Athens. In the sixties he was a close collaborator of the Beatles, which gave him the nickname “Magic Alex” gifts.

The 74-year-old was, according to his entourage fell ill and died, according to a police source, “very probably a natural death”.

His body was found in his apartment in the upscale district of Kolonaki in Athens, after concerned family members reported him as not to have seen it.

In the 60s he was a close associate of the Beatles, as the ceo of their company Apple Electronics. He was especially close to John Lennon, who him in that period, the nickname “Magic Alex” gave.

In 1968, accompanied he the Beatles on their trip to the Indian monastic community of the yogagoeroe Maharis. He was also seen in the film Magical Mystery Tour, the tv movie of The Beatles from 1967.

In the seventies he disappeared from the entourage of the group to a career as an electronic consultant to start. In the nineties he returned to Greece, where he is a well-known figure. In 1993, he was briefly married to the actress Tania Tripi.
