Barcelona takes measures against illegal Airbnb rentals

The Spanish city of Barcelona has a hundred extra woningcontroleurs appointed. That should be the illegal renting of houses to tourists through sites like Airbnb to investigate and, if necessary, to establish links.

To estimate the 75,000 to 100,000 of the 1.7 million Locals renting out their house, apartment or room over the internet to tourists. They earn a good living out of it, but the downside of the medal is that for the average resident is virtually impossible to have affordable housing in the city. Also complain to many people about the nuisance which the continuous flow of tourists in the city caused.

The city has been a vergunningsysteem for short term rental of housing. Homeowners may only be used with this paper plan living area to rent out to tourists. According to an estimate by the municipality, there are between 5,000 and 6,000 buildings in the city illegally rented out.

Until recently, it was the checking done by ten officials have done. Now there are 70 people joined and by the end of the year, there are 110 inspectors at work. Airbnb has commitment and promised to illegal providers of its site to ward off.
