Bacterium discovered to be responsible for Scrubtyfus

Scientists have in South America, the bacteria is discovered that is responsible for scrubtyfus. The infectious disease is caused by the bacterium Orientia tsutsugamushi.
To date, it was in the assumption that the bacterium only in a limited area in Asia and Australia occurred.
Wednesday, reported the New England Journal of Medicine that researchers from British and Chilean universities confirmed that there are multiple cases of scrubtyfus are discovered on the large island of Chiloé in Chile.
The severe variant of the tropical disease can be fatal and is responsible for the death of at least 140,000 people in the Asia-Pacific region.
