Avant-garde theme of the Gergiev-festival
A century after the Russian Revolution the Russian avant-garde in september, are central to the Rotterdam Philharmonic Gergiev Festival.
The new developments in the Russian arts of the period, with composers such as Stravinsky, Prokofiev and Shostakovich, be extensively exposed with four symphonic concerts and two kamermuziekprogramma.
Valery Gergiev and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra to open the festival with works by, among others, Stravinsky in the Great Hall. There is also a multimedia kamermuziekvoorstelling with violinist Liza Ferschtman and actor Thom Hoffman.
The industrialization of the Soviet Union is covered in the kamermuziekprogramma ‘The Machine and the music of the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble’.
Prokofjevs Oktobercantate is performed, just as the Fourth and Fifth symphony of Shostakovich.
