Art movement The Style to be honored with postage stamps
PostNL will be issuing at the end of march, a stamp sheet with work on The Style connected artists. This year is celebrated the art movement of a century ago has emerged.
From march 27, may afbeeldinkjes of work of Piet Mondriaan, Theo van Doesburg, Cornelis van Eesteren, Gerrit Rietveld and J. J. P. Oud on the letter, postcard and parcel will be pasted. The pictured works are from the collections of the Gemeentemuseum in the Hague and The New Institute.
The magazine The Style was founded by Theo van Doesburg. With, amongst others, Piet Mondriaan, Bart van der Leck and Gerrit Rietveld, he formed the eponymous art movement.
They wanted to connect to modern developments, and especially with simple shapes, primary colours and black, white and grey. The Style is still of influence on the art, architecture and design now. Dozens of events have now place under the motto ‘Mondrian to Dutch Design’.
