The construction of a new stadium in Rotterdam is Friday a big step closer. Feyenoord has given the green light to the plans for the realisation of the project Team City.
“In the next phase, the final design for the new stadium and the financing will be further elaborated and completed”, says Feyenoord City on his website.
The Rotterdam club has all the aspects of the business case of the International Stages, the Group approved. “The preliminary design has been optimized and fit, while maintaining all the necessary functionalities, the atmosphere and the iconic nature of the design, within the available construction budget”, the statement said.
Feyenoord want to investors, at least 30 million of additional acquisition for the new building. The plan is that by the end of 2019 a bouwpartner been found and that the financing can be completed. If the necessary licenses, there can be early 2020 to start building.
In July, the total cost of the new stadium is still at 444 million euros estimated. It is unknown how high that amount on the basis of the final design.

The new stadium is part of a much larger area development in Rotterdam-South. There are schools, shops and houses, offices and sports complexes. That development is a total of at least 1,5 billion euros budgeted, of which the municipality of Rotterdam 135 million euros to pay.
Feyenoord City must be in the vicinity of the current stadium in the South of Rotterdam rise. The Cockpit was opened in 1937 and was since then continuously the home base of Feyenoord.
The european CHAMPIONSHIP final in 2000 between France and Italy (2-1 after extra-time) was in The Cockpit played and there were concerts given by, among others, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, U2, Prince, George Michael and Madonna.
The current stadium has a capacity of 51.117 seats in the New stadium should 63.000 spectators.
