Arrests ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam in drug research
In a Belgian investigation into drug trafficking from South America to Antwerp and Rotterdam on Tuesday seventeen suspects arrested. In the Netherlands searched the police 21 homes and a commercial building. In Belgium, was simultaneously on nine addresses were searched.
According to the Public Ministry had thirteen of the seventeen arrests in the Netherlands.
In Belgium, four people were arrested. The ages range from 30 to 61 years. The suspects are of Dutch, Serbian-Montenegrin, Bosnian and Albanian origin. They are suspected of international drug trafficking and participation in a criminal organisation.
The investigation began in december 2014. The examining judge in Antwerp has worked closely with the National office of the Public Ministry in the Netherlands.
The group would consist of multiple gangs who were engaged in organizing cocaïnesmokkel from Brazil, Colombia or Ecuador. The drugs were hidden in containers with bananas, with as destination the ports of Antwerp and Rotterdam.
The searches were among more than 200,000 euros in cash, three kilos of cocaine, 26 kilograms of MDMA, a cannabisplantage, a kilo of cannabis, a firearm, equipment eavesdropping more difficult and many of encrypted Blackberry PGP phones found.
