Arrest made in drive-by shooting death of UC Irvine and learned friend, who are both 24

The 27-year-old man has been arrested in a drive-by shooting death of a University of California, Irvine, astrophysics scholar and a friend in Los Angeles last week, authorities announced Wednesday, according to reports.

Jonathan Charles, Johnson, was charged with two murders in the death of Jose Flores-Velazquez, 24, and Alfredo Carrera, 24, who said goodbye to each other, and to the South Los Angeles neighborhood she grew up in when they were shot to death, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Flores-Velasquez was a doctoral student at the University of California, Irvine, and the Way it was, a childhood friend and soon-to-be’s father.

Johnson was also charged with the attempted murder of a third man who was injured shielding children in the picture.

Johnson was detained Friday by deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley station, after a license plate check, be connected to the car that he was driving around in a captured on surveillance video near the crime scene.

Johnson had a strong gang ties, but the victims were not “gang members are, by any stretch of the imagination,” at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said, according to The Times.

Johnson was booked into the jail on $ 2 million bail.

Researchers continue to look for someone else who is involved in the shooting, the Times reported.
