Doctors can do nothing more for the very ill Arie Ribbens. The singer (80) is struggling with a lung disease, causing one of his lungs now filled with tissue.
In conversation with The Telegraph tells his wife Cea that Ribbens is too weak to have chemo, radiation or surgery to undergo. “A general anesthesia if he survives. The doctors of the longkliniek in Germany would still try to get something for him to do, but the journey to it is much too much for him.”
Or the tissue in one lung, a tumor, or littekeweefsel, know the do not. They also have no need for an answer. “It doesn’t matter anymore, it doesn’t change the forecast very bleak. Arie is very weak.”
The two try to enjoy the time they now spend together. “It makes no sense to the rest of the day thinking about how bad it exactly with Arie. We know what’s going to happen. The most important thing is that he still is now, that we are still together and that he is not in pain.”
