‘Cursed’ ancient Egyptian sarcophagus opened
Archaeologists in Egypt have opened a huge black sarcophagus which is said to be cursed.’ Inside, they found the three skeletons that will be studied.
Archaeologists in Egypt have led to a mysterious old ‘cursed’ black granite sarcophagus.
The enormous coffin that was recently unearthed in the city of Alexandria, is now open, according to a statement Thursday by the egyptian Ministry of Antiquities. A layer of mortar between the lid and the body of the sarcophagus indicated that it is not open since it was closed more than 2,000 years ago.
The three skeletons and waste water were found in the sarcophagus, the Ministry explained, in a Facebook post. “The first preview of the bone structures suggests that they are most likely to belong to three officers or military soldiers,” he said, noting that one of the skeletons appears an arrow wound.

Mystery surrounded the sarcophagus since the discovery was announced earlier this month. The Independent, quoting local reports, said that the Egyptian officials are mocking suggestions that opening the sarcophagus would unleash a curse.

There was even speculation that the sarcophagus contains the body of Alexander the Great. The famous Macedonian king died in Babylon in 323 B. C. after the construction of a large empire that stretched from Greece to the north-west of India. There are conflicting accounts of what happened to Alexander’s remains after his death, although some indicate that he was buried in the Egyptian city that bears his name, according to National Geographic. The king’s tomb is never found.
