All of the programming is original, because, in opposition to Netflix Inc (NFLX.D), and the recently announced Disney of the Walt Disney Co. (DIS.N) and Apple doesn’t have the right to have a back-catalog of TV shows and movies.

That makes Apple’s relatively slim when compared to other online video services. It is also less expensive than its competitors at only $4.99 per month. And for all those people who have purchased it on your iPhone, iPad, Apple TV device, iphone, iPod touch, or Mac, after the Sept. 10, you can have a free subscription for one year.

Cook, in an interview with Reuters on Wednesday, said he was pleased with the wide range of competition in the streaming video, it is because he believes that it will encourage more people to drop cable tv and digital entertainment options.

“That’s the real advantages, not just for Apple, but for everyone else in the streaming field,” Cook said.

To be launched in more than 100 countries and regions, the Apple TV makes its debut with a four-of-TV-series-for adults, an episode of ” Oprah’s Book Club,” a nature documentary, as well as three children’s series. Additional programming will be added each month.
