‘Apple Watch remains next five years the market leader’

The Apple Watch continues for at least the next five years, the largest player in the market for so-called wearables, devices like smart watches and fitnessarmbanden, argues market researcher IDC on Tuesday.

Look at operating systems has Apple WatchOS according to IDC, now a market share of 44,4 per cent as the market for wearables.

In 2022, the share of the Apple Watch, according to IDC dropped to 35.8 percent, still enough for the position of market leader. The number two would Android be, in 2022 and market share of 22.4 percent, followed by WearOS with 19.8 percent market share.

Market grows further, fitnessarmbanden stagnate

The remaining share of the market for smart watches is in 2022 taken over by brands such as Samsung, Fitbit and Garmin. Those brands have their own operating systems developed for their smartwatch and fitnessarmbanden.

The number of shipped wearables for 2018 and eur 125.3 million copies, believes IDC. That is a growth of 8.5 percent compared to 2017. The increase is set according to IDC, by, to 189,9 million shipped copies in 2022.
