Apple has announced the temporary closure of the retail stores outside of China is in the midst of the corona virus outbreak.

“In our workplaces and communities, we must do all we can to prevent the spread of the COVID-19,” Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted early Saturday morning. “Apple will be temporarily closing all of the stores outside of China until the 27th of March, and it’s committing $15 million to help with the global recovery.”

Last month, Apple announced the temporary closure of its stores in China, when the country was trying to contain the corona virus disease outbreak.

In a statement Friday, Cook said, is that all of the Apple stores in greater China, and has been since its re-opening.

With the recent spread of the corona virus in Europe, North America, and the Middle East, and has drawn contrasts with the waning of the outbreaks in the hardest-hit countries in east Asia.

In China, where the virus emerged at the end of last year, it still accounts for more than 60 percent of the world’s infections, but it has reported only eight new cases Friday, and seven people.

On Friday, Apple announced that it would move its Worldwide Developers Conference in June, to an online format, as a result of the pandemic.
