U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-NY, blasted critics of their signature policy proposal, the Green New Deal, say you listened to “Dr. Evil” and refers to the character from the “Austin Powers” movies.
The freshman Congressman pitched strategic plan to the country on Friday in a one-hour town-hall-style special on MSNBC.
Ocasio-Cortez refuted GOP lawmakers and conservative experts argued that the Green New Deal would deprive a “socialist” fantasy, “cows” and “Hamburger.” She told MSNBC host Chris Hayes that she is “100 percent” expected as a response but do not predict that you would take it to “eleven.”

“I didn’t know that they are total fools of themselves,” Ocasio-Cortez told the roaring Bronx audience. “To be honest, I was expecting nuance a little more, and I expected a little more concern-trolling.”

Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described Democratic socialist, rejected the “label” that the Green New Deal “socialism” and tells Hayes that climate change “is a problem of market failure, externalities in our economy.” They, too, mocked concerns over the cost of the Green New Deal, which is estimated at a GOP think tank, that is about $93 trillion US dollars.
“You sound like Dr. Evil,” U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said of those who criticize the potential cost of the Green New Deal, referring to the movie character played by Mike Myers.
“You waving wand with this spell, and you say, ‘Oh, it’s gonna cost, you know, a bazillion dollars.’ Like, you sound like Dr. Evil, such as “100 million dollars,'” Ocasio-Cortez. “How about we start fully funding the pension of the miners in West Virginia? How about we start with the conversion of Flint? We start right now.”
