FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State Police has apologized for a Super Bowl-themed tweet aimed at discouraging drunk driving referred to prison rape.
News outlets report of the official police account tweeted “Enjoy watching Rob Gronkowski (TO) play, but if you drink & drive … you tight-end can end up in jail!” on Sunday night, at the post with a gif of a fallen soap on a rope. Gronkowski is a tight end for the New England Patriots, who eventually lost to the Philadelphia Eagles.
The tweet, which remained up for nearly two hours and drew the condemnation of Kentucky Secretary of state Alison Lundergan Grimes, who for an apology.
The agency later placed in a statement: “making light of sexual abuse is never acceptable,” and apologized “for the victims of these horrific crimes.”
