Anniversary edition ARTZUID is bigger than ever
The biennial sculpture route ARTZUID is from Friday to see you again in Amsterdam. Art historian and former director of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Rudi Fuchs, put the exhibition together.
The fifth edition of the event, which until 17 september time, this time considerably larger than in previous times.
The 85 works of art, which can be found on a route of about 5 km in South district, close to the theme year ‘Mondrian to Dutch Design – 100 years of Style’. Fuchs shows the influence of the De Stijl movement in the post-war sculpture, with its monumental, abstract sculptures by Dutch artists such as Jan Maaskant, André Volten, Gust Romijn, Auke de Vries and Joost Baljeu.
He demands this attention for a group of artists from our country that are important works for the public space made. Several municipalities have their art on loan.
Further, eight artists specifically for ARTZUID, a work made and on the Zuidas images of international artists.
“With ARTZUID, we put the Dutch sculptors on the international kunstkaart”, says initiator Cintha van Heeswijck. “That’s not happened before. I am proud that we of the neighbourhood have grown to be the largest free art event in the Netherlands, with an average of 375.000 visitors.”
