Anne Hathaway and Stephen Colbert rewatch the actress’ first TV commercial that they recorded at the age of 14.
Oscar award-winning actress Anne Hathaway played in a number of hit films but recently the actress took the time to look back at her TV commercial days.
On Thursday night, Hathaway appeared as a guest on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” where the TV presenter took the actress on a walk down memory lane.
Colbert recalled a list of some of Hathaway’s most iconic roles, including that of the “Princess Diaries,” “the Devil Wears Prada,” and her Academy Award-winning film, “Les Miserables.” But the host managed to dig up images of the stars, the very first on-camera role.
“I have a Better Homes and Gardens commercial when I was 14,” Hathaway said. “And that was my first on-screen job.”
The actress then joked that her 14-year-old face looked like that of a potato and a chipmunk together for Colbert the band played.
In the commercial, a lost Hathaway is sitting on the stairs of her large white house while saying goodbye to her friend, who has just told her that he and his family have moved away. My friend is trying to cheer up his sad friend and says that they at least have the summer together before he turn because the sale of a house takes forever. But not if your house is a Better House and the Gardens of the house.
A placard that reads:”Better Home and Gardens” is placed outside the boyfriend at home and that is when Hathway’s character knew that they would not have the summer together.
“Goodbye, I will miss you,” she cries before the commercials end.
After the commercial view, Hathaway laughed and said to Colbert, “I am very thankful for that commercial because that paid for my first year of university. It ran for a long time.”
Colbert then switched gears to the star of the new film “Ocean’s 8,” which is the female version of the original “Ocean’s 11” heist movies starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
The new film follows Debbie Ocean, played by Sandra Bullock, as she assembles a girls team to help her with the robbery of the theft of a $150 million diamond necklace from the annual Gala. Hathaway, who draws the expensive jewelry for the fashion gala, is the goal.
The anticipated action flick also stars Cate Blancett, Sarah Paulson, Helena Bonham Carter, Mindy Khaling and Rihanna.
