MILWAUKEE – A former Milwaukee police officer is set to appear in court after he is accused of reckless murder in the killing of a black man.
Dominique Heaggan-Brown is charged in the Aug. 13 death of 23-year-old Sylville Smith, a shot of him two days of rioting on Milwaukee north side. His first appearance is Friday.
Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm said the police body-camera video shows that Smith had a gun in his hand, while Heaggan-Brown fired the first shot hit Smith in the biceps. Chisholm said Heaggan-Brown’s second shot to Smith’s chest came after Smith was and no longer had a gun. The shots were fired in less than two seconds.
