An Airbus-backed tournament to unveil the first electric-powered racing aircraft

(Reuters) – An Airbus-backed, air-racing tournament, unveiled an electric-powered sport aircraft on the Sunday, billed as the world’s first, as well as the European planemaker aims to promote a green aviation and aerospace technology.

A number of companies, including the united states ride from the company Uber Technologies Inc. UBER.(N), are working on electric-powered flying car, in the middle of a growing concern about the environmental impact of fossil-fuel-intensive air travel.

Last month, Airbus’s (AIR.PA), arch-rival, Boeing, announced a partnership with car manufacturer, Volkswagen VOWG_p.DE sport car manufacturer, Porsche, to develop a concept of electric flying vehicle in the transportation of persons in urban areas.

The Air Race is the E he said the aircraft, called White Lightning, and was unveiled at the Dubai air show, to be produced by the UK’s Condor Airlines.

It will also make use of an electric motor, it will run at a speed of about 482 km (300 miles) per hour on the flat of 5 km (3 mile) circuit, with only 10 feet off the ground.

“The race series is a test bed for innovation and the acceleration of the head in the direction of an electric, commercial, travel, Air, Race E, by the Chief Executive, Jeff “Walkman” he said.

Lithium ion batteries are installed under the fuselage of the aircraft, it will provide power for up to five minutes of high intensity racing, and only 10 minutes away from the reserve, fly in a reduced capacity, the company said.

The Air Race is in E, it is aimed to be the world’s first all-electric aircraft, in competition with the launch of the first of a series of international events by the year 2020. Expect this week to be the name of one of the eight teams to qualify for the race.
