If you think that the flying in and out of the capital of the country for the Donald Trump of the inauguration will be about as fun as a colonoscopy, and maybe that traveling by train is a breeze, consider this as a warning: The train will not be a joyride.
Amtrak is doing what it can to anyone who wants to ride on the rails to and from Washington between Friday, Jan. 20 and Monday, Jan. 23 by the expansion of the service to and from the capital city of the country. This week, the nation’s largest rail service, said it will be with more seats and the scheduling of additional trains on the Acela Express and Northeast Regional services.
But the large crowds are no match for even the best-laid plans.

With thousands expected to travel this weekend, the railway and offers some useful tips for inauguration-goers. Ignore them at your own risk:
–All Amtrak trains in the Northeast require reservations prior to boarding. Customers are advised to be as early as possible Amtrak.com using Amtrak mobile apps or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL, and pick up their round-trip tickets before boarding the train to Washington.
–Anticipate a stalemate. You don’t want to wind up missing your train out of the city, so allow extra time to get to Union Station.
–Some of the inputs to Union Station can be closed. Special characters can be in place to direct passengers to boarding gates, residential, and transit services, parking garage and bus deck.
–Amtrak staff will be on hand to help customers to Union Station and several other Northeast Corridor stations, including in New York, Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore.

–With numerous trains that arrive at the same time, they can in turn solve customers to prevent overcrowding in the station.
–Sanitary facilities at Union Station are limited and very crowded. Consider the use of the toilet before arriving at the station for the journey back. Portable toilets will be available outside the station.
— Lockers and storage units can fill up quickly, so pack light.
–Tag your bag and keep it close. The Amtrak staff will not be able to respond to calls about lost items.
Amtrak is also ramping up security measures, which can be additional delays. Customers are advised to prepare for the increased security measures in stations and in trains, including:
–Enhanced patrolling by Amtrak police and of the local, provincial and federal police.

–Additional K-9 units. (Customers are asked to let the dogs do their work. Do not approach or try to pet police dogs.
–Increased identification of the controls.
–Screening of passengers and their cabin baggage and hold baggage.
