Amstelveen, Museum Jan van der Togt opens new wing
The Amstelveen, Museum Jan van der Togt, exists 25 years and celebrates the from Thursday, with two exhibitions and the opening of a new museum’s wing.
With this new space, The Treasury called, the museum of modern art and 300 square metres expositieoppervlakte. In the wing are the highlights from the international art collection to see, the glascollectie and paintings of artist Sam Francis.
In the exhibition Sam Francis & Friends – Ting, Appel and Alechinsky makes it public knowledge, with special early works of the beloved Francis and his artists such Ting Walasse, Karel Appel and Pierre Alechinsky.
In addition, the exhibition 25 years of Jan to see the link between art collector and museumoprichter Jan van der Togt (1905-1995) and artist Jan Verschoor, who almost 25 years, was director of the museum.
Van der Togt was the founder of the Tomado factory, the maker of house-, garden – and kitchen utensils, and rushed after the sale of his company to modern art. He started collecting, and when his collection became bigger and bigger, he decided a good place to search. That led to the opening of the museum in 1991.
