American border control is going to have accounts on social media check

The American border control checks now accounts on social media from foreign travelers.

By accounts on social media to view, try to use the government to “potential threats” to identify. That reports Politico.

The new policy applies at the moment only for travelers without a visa to the United States. Travelers login to a website, where will also to names on social media prompted.

The specify of online accounts is currently optional. You will be prompted to Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.

The American border control says at the moment is not going to be to give people access to the country, to prohibit them if they social media refuse to share. It is unclear whether people with suspicious information in their accounts immediately banned.

The U.s. Customs and Border Protection submitted in June already a plan to use social media to check. The plan was criticised by the umbrella organisation the Internet Association, which includes Google and Facebook are part of. They found the controls “a threat to privacy and security of foreigners”. The proposed plan seems to be implemented without major changes.
