Amazon is reportedly developing a voice-activated wearable device that can recognize human emotions.

The gadget, designed to be worn on the wrist, is reportedly a health and wellness product developed through a collaboration between Lab126 — that built Amazon’s Echo smart speaker — and Alexa software team.

According to internal documents obtained by Bloomberg and a person familiar with the matter, the device is microphones that figure out a person’s emotional state from the sound of his or her voice. The documents also apparently show how the technology can ultimately help the wearer to interact more effectively with others.

A beta testing program is reportedly underway, but it is not clear whether the project, code-named Dylan, ever a commercial unit or not exactly how far the project is in its development, reported Bloomberg.

If Fox News reach Amazon for comment on Thursday, a spokesman said that the tech giant “no comment on rumors or speculation.”

The business outlet also reported on a patent filed in 2017, but made public last year, for a system in which the voice software makes use of the analysis of the vocal patterns to decipher how a person feels, demanding under a range of emotions, such as joy, grief, anger, sadness, fear and disgust.

A diagram in the patent says the technology can detect an abnormal emotional state and gives a sniffling woman tells Alexa she is hungry. The digital assistant, in the sense that they have a cold, then asks the woman if she wants a recipe for chicken soup.

Amazon is of course not the only tech company pursuing the opportunities for health and wellness with portable devices.

The Apple Watch is a so-called life-saving for its ability to detect an irregular heartbeat.
