SINGAPORE (Reuters) – Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN.D) it is to start with a larger, local store, and market it in Singapore, and the expansion of its product selection and strengthening of competition with rivals such as Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (BABA).(N) Lazada and Sea, Ltd., it’s very smooth.(N) Shopee.
The AMERICAN company has launched a local online shop in the wealthy Southeast Asian city-state for more than two years ago, and for the speedy delivery of the service via a mobile app. The first, a local selection which focuses on grocery and household items, and household goods are not as broad as those offered by the competition.
“With Amazon.sg: we want to be and what customers have been asking us for: the opportunity for everyone to shop at the desktop, and, mobile, local and international, a selection from Amazon or trusted sellers, which is combined with a fast and reliable delivery, Henry-Low, Amazon-Singapore-country manager, said in a statement.
Amazon also said that it will allow small-and medium-sized companies to offer their products to the online shoppers, with Amazon.sb. Some e-commerce companies such as Lazada, especially, operate on a marketplace model in Singapore.
Singapore, a small but high-quality market, with a population of only 5.7 million, which is often seen as the starting point for consumer-facing companies, in many of the larger South-east Asian countries, such as Indonesia, which is home to more than 260 million people.
