(Reuters) – Alphabet, Inc. ‘ s (GOOGL.(O) newly introduced by the Chief Executive Officer, Sundar Pichai, he will receive a hefty $240 million in performance-based stock awards for the next three years, the largest ever pledged to an executive from the search giant.
Pichai would also be taking home a $2 million annual salary, as of 2020, according to a regulatory filing on Friday. That’s like a $1 salary, received by Larry Page, in the same role as in the previous year. (a little bit.m/36VSo8u)
“In terms of grants, in relation to the CEO appointment, it’s behind a Tim Cook’s grant of $376 million when he took over Apple,” said Amit Batish, marketing manager at Equilar, a company that tracks executive compensation.
Google co-founders Page and Sergey Brin came earlier this month when leaders from the internet’s behemoth, they founded 21 years ago, the Pichai the expense of the parent company, in addition to his role as the head of the security of your network.
A trusted lieutenant of Pichai, who spent 15 years working at Google, and is now the face of the company, which is facing criticism from U.S. lawmakers, as well as its employees, on a number of issues, ranging from privacy to monopoly.
When he took over as Google’s chief in 2015, Pichai drew a salary of $652,500. In the following years, his income has increased tremendously, thanks to a massive $199 million in stock awards, the time for the letters of the Alphabet and executive time.
Pichai is widely credited with creating the Google chrome web browser to be a success, and was seen as a possible successor for Microsoft Corp’s (MSFT.O) CEO Steve Ballmer before Satya Nadella took over in February of 2014.
According to the most recent proxy statement of the company, Pichai earned nearly $1.9 million by 2018, which is usually included in the cost, safety, and the personal use of the aircraft. His base salary this year was $650,000.
The median CEO base salary was $1.2 million for the largest U.S. companies by revenue in 2018, according to Equilar.
