Alexander Skarsgard, hit the “disgusting” double standard in Hollywood and said he is “100 percent feminist.”
Skarsgard spoke with Elle UK for the magazine’s March edition and said that he was a witness of his actress friends deal with the double standards that plague the entertainment industry.
“There is a double standard [in the film industry]. I know that some actress friends of mine. And it is disgusting. It is not a problem that is specific to Hollywood,” he said.
He added, “I think you see this in a large number of professions, where the men in power think they are entitled. So these women are very brave to talk about it, and I believe that it will fundamentally change things.”
The star said that he is “100 percent” a feminist and praised Sweden, his home country, ahead of most countries when it comes to the rights of the woman.
Skarsgard also previously praised his female co-stars while accepting his Golden Globe for best actor in a supporting role in “Big Little Lies,” an HBO show focused on female protagonists.
“I’m here tonight because I had the privilege to work with a group of extremely talented women,” he said in his acceptance speech.
Skarsgard also opened up to Elle UK about growing up in the spotlight when he was 13 and how it affects his self-confidence.
“I felt worthless. I wanted girls in school to like me, because I was funny or fun or interesting – that’s what you want anyway? If you are 13? And I think when you’re 40…” the 41-year-old actor said.
