Alabama police narcotics dog, died after a fall ill while in the jail, on drug find

An Alabama narcotics task force the dog died during the weekend after getting sick from an unknown substance during a contraband search, state prison officials said.

K-9 Jake got sick and threw when he found out that it is a substance inside Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore County, Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) has said. The dog has died due to pneumonia complications two days later.

“After the reports on the fabric, and Jake lost his balance, and it is not responding,” Sgt. Quintin Jones, the dog, the boss, told WFSA-TV.

Jake is given a funeral with full honors, ADOC said.

The substance has not yet been confirmed, but early testing has identified it as synthetic marijuana, ADOC, told the Montgomery Advertiser.

Officials evacuated the prison, dormitory, and medical staff performed CPR and administered IV fluids for stabilization of the canine, WFSA reported. At the time, it was believed that Jake would make a full recovery.

The department shared it on Facebook, that Sgt. Jones, remember, they are a true member of the ADOC K-9 Office, and for his flawless record in counter-drug operations. The dogs were in the came into force in 2014.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey issued an award in honor of Jake’s service will be on Monday, the Advertiser reported.

“I was saddened to hear that one of the Corrections in K9s, Jake, had lost his life over the weekend,” said Ivey. “This is K9’s died in the service of the safety of the public, and the authority of the state. However, an example of kindness, loyalty, and service to our four-legged friends have to offer. We have indeed lost a faithful companion.”

Jake will be a memorial service with full honors on July 30, ADOC said.
