Airman shot in the leg at the Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada; and the circumstances being investigated

Police were called to Nellis Air Force Base in Nevada on Thursday night after receiving a report that a pilot had been shot and killed, officials said.

Officers responded at about 9:35 a.m. and found a pilot with a gunshot wound to one of his legs. He was rushed to the University Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, FOX 5 Las Vegas reported.

The shooting happened at the base in the vicinity of the O’callaghan Federal Hospital, Las Vegas, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Adrian Beas, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Officers were called in to assist base personnel.

In the circumstances of the shooting remained unclear Thursday night. Base officials and Las Vegas police were continuing their investigation.

On Wednesday, an airman stationed at the base have died after one of the five service members have rolled over on U.S. Highway 95, the off-base property, the Review-Journal. Several people were ejected from the vehicle and rolled over, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.

One pilot was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people were rushed to the University Medical Center’s Trauma Center with serious injuries. The fifth pilot was flown by air with non-life-threatening injuries.
