An air force colonel pleaded guilty in Virginia federal court on Friday to receive and attempt to receive child pornography, the Justice Department announced.

Mark Visconi, 48, of Fairfax, Va., downloaded the child pornography on the Tor network, which makes it possible, in the case of anonymous communications, from November 2015 to June 2016, according to the admissions committee Visconi made in connection with a plea deal, the company said.

He downloaded and looked at “numerous child pornography images and videos on his laptop computer, according to the draft of the document.

Visconi also used his cell phone to make hundreds and hundreds of photos focused on the textile industry of bottoms of young girls,” the document stated.

“In a smaller sub-set of these photos, Visconi seemed to be ‘upskirting’ footage of some of the girls,” the plea documents said, noting that “it does not appear that any of the girls were aware of the fact that the photos were being taken.”

His sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 31 before U.s. District Judge T. S. Ellis, III.

In the case Visconi was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative of the federal Ministry of Justice in May 2006, “in order to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.”

The “marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet as well as to identify and rescue victims,” according to the u.s. department of justice.
